Smith was happy with the No. 16 HASA Toyota Camry right at the start of the race day. He was less that 2/10ths off the top of the grid during the practice. The #16 HASA team drew the first qualifying position and the track was very loose to start. The No. 16 qualified on the outside of row eight to start the 150-lap race. He made a steady climb thru the field and by lap 85, was running in tenth. Smith continued to make a hard charge toward the front gaining four more positions before he took the checkered flag. He is fifth in points and only 17 points out of third.
"I had a tough run in qualifying, and knew that I had some ground to make up," said Smith. "Crew chief Duane Knorr made some tire pressure adjustments to the HASA Pool Products car, and the car was great for the race. I just want to thank those who made the drive out to Colorado National Speedway to watch me race to the front."
